| EL PEÑAGOLOSA: OUR LEGENDARY STONE GIANT |
El Peñagolosa, standing 1814 metres tall, is our most iconic mountain, our flagship peak, our Stone Giant: a sacred summit that has marked the lives of many generations for millennia.
Today it is protected by a Natural Park, and is traversed by various trails that allow us to discover its many natural treasures and a huge part of its significant cultural heritage. We’ll ascend through the La Teixera ravine, where we’ll begin to familiarise ourselves with the vegetation that is commonly found in high Mediterranean mountains in the coldest and rainiest area in our territory. The Itinerantur team will tell tales of ancient trails, fountains, watering holes and snow deposits on our way up to the peak. The views from the top are simply breathtaking. We’ll make a peaceful descent through the leafy La Pegunta ravine, which is a true botanical jewel. Our final stop is the Sanctuary of San Juan de Peñagolosa. Without this ancient and sacred construction, it would be impossible to understand a large part of our history as a people.
