MADE-TO-MEASURE EXPERIENCES
NATURAL PARKS
| THE SIERRA DE IRTA: THE PRIMITIVE MEDITERRANEAN |
The Sierra de Irta Natural Park is practically the only undeveloped stretch (14km) of the entire Spanish Mediterranean coastline, which connects France to Andalusia. Its mountains, imposing cliffs, beaches and coves are amongst the last remaining natural testimonies of the wild Mediterranean, which has practically disappeared over the last fifty years.
During the route, as we stand at the feet of the Badúm Tower atop an impressive cliff, we’ll learn about the the activity of Barbary pirates. We’ll explore a uniquely biodiverse area, and learn how it adapts to the harsh conditions of a constantly changing coastline. We’ll talk about the sea and the importance of conserving it as we stand beside a small spring that flows into a deserted cove. Later, we’ll also experience the smells and even tastes of Mediterranean vegetation in all its glory. There will also be time to enjoy a sit-down lunch with locally-sourced produce on the unspoilt shores of the Mediterranean. It’s sure to be a day that will live long in the memory.
PLEASE REMEMBER:
- Please bring suitable clothes and footwear for the activity. You’ll also need to bring water (1.5 litres/person) and a sugary snack, just in case.
- We recommend bringing a bathing costume, hat and sun cream if you are planning on participating in this activity between the months of March and October.
