MADE-TO-MEASURE EXPERIENCES

A UNIQUE HISTORY

| THE WINDMILLS OF ARES DEL MAESTRAT |

Ares del Maestrat is one of the most picturesque villages found anywhere in Castellón, with this due, in part, to its location on the slopes of an impressive plateau standing at more than 1300 metres above sea level. Besides its vast heritage and enormous cultural value, this flat-topped hill is home to various flora micro-reserves and was declared a Municipal Natural Site due to its special natural characteristics (such as corals and starfish at 1300 metres above sea level…who’d have thought it?). On this route we’ll learn the secrets of hydraulic engineering through the mills, ponds and conduction systems of the Los Molinos ravine. We’ll also discover facts about the ancient snow and ice industry during a visit to one of the few square-shaped snow deposits in the Valencian Community: the Nevera dels Regatxols.

PLEASE REMEMBER:
  • Please bring suitable clothes and footwear for the activity. You’ll also need to bring water (1.5 litres/person) and a sugary snack, just in case.
  • The best time of year for participating in this activity is between March and October.
